Si Racha –

One person has died while another has sustained serious injuries after a pickup truck crashed into a tree in Si Racha, breaking the vehicle in half.

Emergency responders were notified of the accident on Sunday afternoon (July 11th) in Thung Sukhala.

They and associated local Thai media arrived at the scene to find the severely damaged pickup truck that had been split entirely in half, with the rear portion lying in a wooded ditch area some distance from the cab. Food and ingredients were scattered across the brush set just off the Thung Sukhala roadway.

A man and a woman, who were not identified to the Thai press by Si Racha law enforcement, were found inside the pickup truck. It took more than half an hour to free them from the badly damaged vehicle. They were both rushed to a local medical facility, where the man tragically was pronounced dead upon arrival. The female passenger remains under medical treatment as of press time.

Mr. Suttisak Inkaew, a witness, told associated reporters, “I was driving behind the pickup truck. The pickup truck driver appeared to be speeding and the road was slick due to recent rain showers. They lost control, sending them into a ditch alongside the roadway where they hit a tree, splitting the vehicle entirely in half. I stopped and called emergency services for assistance.”

At this stage, Si Racha police believe based on evidence gathered by officers that the couple in the truck worked as a grocer delivery service and were rushing to deliver an order of food to a local customer. They were traveling at high speed despite difficult road conditions and lost control of the vehicle.

The accident remains under investigation and Si Racha police plan to speak with the female survivor when she recovers from her injuries.
