Food lines continue to grow in Pattaya, local residents express concern

Pattaya –

Local residents have expressed concern over the past weekend to the media as food lines continue to grow in Pattaya amongst stricter Covid-19 restrictions and measures, for both the size of the lines and wanting to ensure Covid-19 protective measures, like social distancing and mask-wearing, are taking place at the charity events.

On Friday (July 9th) several good Samaritans gave away free food to the needy on Pattaya beach. Law enforcement officers reportedly assisted in the giveaway.

However, according to bystanders, the free food was not enough for the needy and the charity ran out of supply with many people still waiting in line, leading to confusion, lack of social distancing, and concern.

Local residents are reportedly worried that the growing charity lines themselves could cause Covid-19 cases and clusters. While understanding of the desperate situation for many and not wanting to take away any charity events, they have asked that more officers be assigned to charity events and help enforce social distancing, mask-wearing, usage of hand sanitizer, and other precautions.

TPN media notes that anyone running a charity event must partner with and inform city officials through City Hall or by calling the city contact number at 1337 to ensure that proper precautions are taken to avoid crowds bunching closely together or other potential problems. The city has also been regularly sending law enforcement to assist at the events with social distancing and crowd control.

The Pattaya Mayor has also previously spoken about the growing food lines in Pattaya, caused by months of business closures, lack of domestic and foreign tourists, and Covid-19 related restrictions and measures. Unfortunately, the number of Covid-19 cases in Chonburi has only increased despite the measures and there is no end in sight of the restrictions and closures. He focused on the fact that although the situation in Pattaya was certainly difficult currently that many people were still opening up their hearts (and wallets) to help those most in need in Pattaya.
