Thailand discovered a total of 7,058 daily Covid-19 infections with 75 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, breaking its new highest record of daily infections and deaths since the first outbreak, CCSA assistant spokesperson Apisamai Srirangsan announced this morning, July 8th.
The fatalities were 39 men and 36 women from Bangkok (38), Samut Prakan (9), Narathiwas (4), Pathum Thani (4), Nakhon Pathom (3), Yala (3), Chaiyaphom (2), Songkhla (2), Uthai Thani (1), Chachoengsao (1), Sara Buri (1), Nakhon Ratchasima (1), Buriram (1), Pattani (1), Samut Songkram (1), Suphan Buri (1), and Ayutthaya (1). The age range was between 33 and 94 years old.
Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, kidney disease, heart disease, strokes, lung disease, liver disease, obesity, and alcohol-use disorders. Nine of the fatalities did not reportedly have any health conditions.
Of the new cases, 5,249 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 1,732 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 68 were from prisons, and the remaining nine were imported cases.
Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest numbers of patients were reported in Bangkok with 2,212, followed by Samut Prakan with 565, Samut Sakhon with 517, Chonburi with 290, Pathum Thani with 229, and Songkhla with 213.
A total number of 291,575 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 248,933 people had received their first shot and 42,642 people had received their second shots.
As of today, 4,978 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 308,230 cases with 236,149 recoveries and a total of 2,368 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha this morning has called an emergency meeting with the CCSA and relevant government agencies tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM. The meeting is likely to mention the implementation of potentially more restrictions and measures to attempt to slow down the spread of the virus, including possible strict regulations like last year’s first-round of Covid-19 in Thailand and closures of department stores in Bangkok for 14 days, according to the Ministry of Public Health. So far, however, no final decisions have been made.
