Pattaya –
A small group of local college students held a “mini-protest” in the Pattaya area overnight in Pattaya on Monday, July 5th, 2021. They claimed the protest was part of their school project assigned by a teacher when questioned by Pattaya police officers. However, they did not give the name of the teacher and dispersed peacefully.
You can see a video of the protest here:
The protest was held on Monday (July 5th) around midnight on North Pattaya Road near the dolphin curve and on Pattaya Walking Street.
Ten teenagers who claimed that they are students at a school in Chonburi were holding white papers with messages claiming the government has failed and people are dying, referring to Covid-19 and related policies and measures.
They also placed dolls in front of closed nightclubs and bars to show that people have no chance to survive. They explained this represents government restrictions that have shuttered bars and entertainment venues in Pattaya (and nationwide) for almost three months with no end in sight.
As the students took pictures and hung banners around Walking Street Pattaya police arrived to speak with the group. The students claimed that they were protesting for a school project to show to their teacher but would not give more information.
The group briefly debated the issue of hanging signs and dolls with Pattaya police before agreeing to remove all messages and dolls and go home. Police did not charge them with any violations of the law and the overall situation remained peaceful.
