Thailand discovered a total of 6,519 daily Covid-19 infections with 54 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, CCSA assistant spokesperson Apisamai Srirangsan announced this morning, July 7th.
The fatalities were 32 men and 22 women from Bangkok (30), Pattani (4), Samut Prakan (3), Pathum Thani (3), Nakhon Ratchasima (2), Yala (2), Samut Sakhon (2), Chiang Rai (1), Phetchaburi (1), Chonburi (1), Nakhon Pathom (1), Chaiyaphom (1), Narathiwas (1), Nakhon Sri Thammarat (1), and Ayutthaya (1). The age range was between 26 and 89 years old.
Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, kidney disease, obesity, heart disease, lung disease, strokes, and alcohol-use disorders. One of the fatalities was a bedridden patient. Seven of them did not reportedly have any health conditions.
Of the new cases, 4,958 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 1,490 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 55 were from prisons, and the remaining 16 were imported cases.
Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest numbers of patients were reported in Bangkok with 1,549, followed by Samut Prakan with 548, Samut Sakhon with 434, Nakhon Pathom with 266, Chonburi with 262, and Chachoengsao with 252.
A total number of 269,653 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 223,268 people had received their first shot and 46,385 people had received their second shots.
As of today, 4,148 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 301,712 cases with 231,171 recoveries and a total of 2,387 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
The Phuket governor reported this morning that a foreign tourist from the United Arab Emirates who arrived on the island under the “Phuket Sandbox” scheme yesterday, July 6th, was found to be infected with Covid-19, becoming the first tourist to have found with the virus since the province was reopened.
The tourist had his first swab test taken upon his arrival at Phuket international airport before he went to his hotel. The result was proved positive last night, between 10:00 PM. and 11 PM.
Provincial health officials immediately alerted the manager of the hotel before taking the infected tourist to a hospital for treatment. Other tourists in the same tour group that were considered to be high-risk were required to perform 14-day quarantine at a provided hotel for observation and Covid-19 testing.
The foreign tourist is said to be asymptomatic. The man is the first out of 2,113 international arrivals to test positive since the start of the Sandbox project on July 1st, giving a 0.05 percent positive rate. Phuket is, according to the governor, 70% vaccinated against Covid-19 now as well.
