Adult suspect arrested in Pattaya after allegedly stealing from Banglamung Culture Ministry official’s office twice to fund his teenage girlfriend’s birthday party

Pattaya –

An unemployed 28-year-old man and his young 14-year-old “girlfriend” have been arrested in Banglamung after stealing items worth an estimated hundreds of thousands of baht from a Banglamung culture official’s office twice. The man reportedly admitted to the police that he stole the money for his girlfriend’s birthday party but also planned to donate some of the stolen money to the homeless in Pattaya.

A team from the Pattaya City Police led by Deputy Police Lieutenant Colonel Somphon Nakkampan on Tuesday of this week (June 29th) have arrested Mr. Lek Aksorn, 28, and a 14-year-old Thai teenage female, who was not named due to being a minor. They were both arrested at a rental house in Nongprue. A total of twelve items reportedly stolen from a local culture ministry official were found at their residence.

On June 27th Pattaya police were notified that the two suspects broke into the Coordinating Center office of the Cultural Ministry in Soi Paneiad Chang. The two suspects are accused of stealing two laptops and ten thousand baht in cash from this first visit.

On June 28th at 1:00 A.M. police were notified of a second break-in from the same suspects at the same Coordinating Center office. The suspects stole nearly a dozen items during this visit, according to officials from the Culture Ministry. Police tracked down the suspects from CCTV footage in the vicinity, recognizing the two were the same people involved in both burglaries.

Police arrested the two suspects at a rental room that is only 500 meters away from the Culture Ministry office.

Mr. Lek reportedly admitted to Pattaya police he used the money to hold a birthday party for his young girlfriend but also claimed he was going to donate some of the money to homeless people in Pattaya. He has been unemployed due to the Covid-19 situation according to his statements.

He is facing multiple charges of theft. It is unclear if his minor girlfriend will be charged or if he will face any charges around a relationship with a minor.
