UPDATE: All those arrested in Pattaya raids on “restaurants” allegedly violating Covid-19 rules yesterday tested for the virus, awaiting results and court hearings

A mix of more than 100 Thais and foreigners including police that was involved in a raid on two “restaurants” yesterday morning conducted Covid-19 tests at the Pattaya City Police Station.

Additionally, according to the Pattaya City Police, all of those arrested have courtroom appearances scheduled for tomorrow morning, Monday, the 28th of June.

More than 100 people, a mix of Thais and foreigners, were arrested in a South Pattaya raid while allegedly drinking alcohol and smoking shisha and related products at two “restaurants” that Pattaya police stated was violating the current Thai emergency decree to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus.

Medical staff from the Banglamung Hospital conducted Covid -19 tests at the Pattaya City Police Station for 107 people who had been arrested and 26 police, reporters, and first responders who were involved in the raid yesterday and today.

According to Pattaya City Police, those arrested have to self-isolate or stay at the police station for 24 hours while waiting for their test results. If anyone was found to be positive or high risk, they will be sent to a local Pattaya hospital for further treatment. Those arrested will have a first appearance at local courts tomorrow, according to police, where they will face various charges in relation to alleged violation of the emergency decree and communicable disease acts currently in place.

Courtroom hearings are normally closed to the public and press, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, however, if the court provides a public statement regarding the sentencing TPN media will provide an update.
