Thailand discovered a total of 3,682 daily Covid-19 infections with 20 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration reported this morning, June 20th.
The fatalities were 13 men and 7 women from Bangkok (11), Nakhon Pathom (3), Samut Prakan (2), Chantaburi (1), Rayong (1), Saraburi (1), and Ubon Ratchathani (1). The age range was between 26 and 90 years old.
Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, strokes, heart disease, kidney disease, and lung disease. One of the fatalities refused to report any health conditions.
Of the new cases, 1,866 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 1,198 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 578 were from prisons, and the remaining 40 were imported cases.
Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest numbers of patients were reported in Bangkok with 836, followed by Samut Prakan with 501, Samut Sakhon with 192, Chonburi with 175, Nonthaburi with 165, and Pathum Thani with 129.
A total number of 104,095 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 11,605 people had received their first shot with a Sinovac vaccine and 40,368 people had their first shot with AstraZeneca, marking a total of 104,095 people who received the first doses.
51,959 people had their second shots with a Sinovac vaccine and the second dose was given to 163 people with AstraZeneca, marking a total of 52,122 people.
As of today, 2,401 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 218,131 cases with 183,759 recoveries and a total of 1,577 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
This morning, 1,000,000 shots of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines have arrived in Thailand around 1:50 A.M. from the manufacturer in Beijing, China. The vaccine would be stored for a quality check by the Department of Medical Science for two days before being distributed at vaccination centers nationwide on June 25th. Chonburi has ordered 100,000 doses from this order.
Meanwhile, the Thai Interior Ministry had sent a “most urgent” order to all 76 provincial governors to provide Covid vaccines to 71,445 ThaiBev employees and their families nationwide, reasoning that the company is operated across the country and staff and their families should receive the vaccination as soon as possible to prevent the risk of Covid-19 infections. This decision drove intense discussion on Thai social media, with some questioning why one particular company would seem to be a priority.
