Rotary Club of Pattaya holds meeting, has special guest speaker, update on charity peace concert

Pattaya, Thailand-

The Rotary Club of Pattaya, Pattaya’s oldest club founded in 1972, held its bi-weekly meeting under strict Covid-19 precautions and measures on Monday, June 14th, 2021 at the Royal Cliff.

The meeting, which included the usage of Thai check-in procedures, temperature check-ins, social distancing, usage of hand sanitizer, and other precautions was highlighted by a special environmental speech by guest speaker and Rotarian Matthew Kelly.

Mr. Kelly, who is a known musician formerly playing with multiple bands like the Electric Light Orchestra, based his speech around bringing focus to environmental issues, speaking about how a young woman in Hollywood, Julia Butterfly Hill, camped out in a giant redwood tree for 738 days to prevent it from being cut down.

Mr. Kelly and his wife, Mary, have dedicated their lives to charitable projects in Thailand and his presentation led to an in-depth discussion between attending club members on what kind of environmental projects the club could organize in the next twelve months and how the Rotary Club of Pattaya could make an impact.

There were five visiting guests at the meeting and a sister club proposal was made by the Rotary Club of Koh Chang. This is considered as an interesting proposal as both communities share the importance of tourism driving a significant portion of their local economies.

The next scheduled Rotary Club of Pattaya meeting will be on June 28th at the Royal Cliff and will also be under strict Covid-19 precautions. The agenda will be to brainstorm charitable and community projects for the next Rotary calendar year which begins on July first, 2021.

The Rotary Club of Pattaya has a currently postponed charity concert, the Peace Dinner Concert, which will also be combined as an installation ceremony for the new club president and the board of directors when Covid-19 restrictions ease in Chonburi and Thailand.

This date will be announced to the public in the near future as it is hopeful restrictions and measures prohibiting concerts and gatherings of over 50 people will be lifted sometime soon. At this time due to ongoing Covid-19 measures a new date has not yet been chosen.
