The local village headman, Chamnan Kenthongdaeng, 52, told associated Thai media yesterday (June 11th) it rained at about 3:00 P.M. and lasted for about half an hour two days after the religious ritual to ask for rain.

A video of the rainfall had been recorded by another village headman in a nearby village, Mr. Koson Samang, 39, who confirmed that, according to him, it was raining in the village where the enormous phallus was built as a result of the rain-making ritual.

However, villagers from Yothaka told the associated Thai press it was still not enough water for their rice fields. They are hoping for more rain in the next few days, said Mr. Chamnan. Chamnan stated prayers will continue to the phallus, which represents fertility and new growth, and has been a tradition of the village for decades stretching back to his grandparents.

Mr. Chamnan also stated that people scorning the practice online had no faith and were being disrespectful to beliefs of the villagers that dated back almost a hundred years.
