Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health officially signs for 20 million shots of Pfizer vaccines to be distributed nationwide by the end of this year

Bangkok –

Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health yesterday, June 10th, has officially signed a contract with Pfizer for 20 million shots of their Covid-19 vaccine, to be distributed in Thailand by the end of this year.

Public Health Minster Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the progress of Pfizer vaccine allocation in the country with the press this morning, June 11th, and said that Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, Director-General of the Department of Disease Control, has already signed a vaccination trading agreement on Thursday after a draft contract was approved by the Attorney General’s Office.

In the following step, the distributor of the Pfizer vaccines would submit for vaccine permission for emergency use in Thailand to the Thai FDA. The Ministry of Public Health, meanwhile, has four weeks to plan the vaccine delivery time frame. The first batch of the 20 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine is scheduled to arrive in the Kingdom later this year, although the Ministry of Public Health would not give a definitive timeline or date.

The Minister also mentioned that an additional 5 million shots of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be procured as well. The process of preparing documents is currently undergoing. As Johnson & Johnson vaccines are only given to an individual for a single shot this batch of five million shots will be enough for 5 million people. There is not a definitive timeline or date “set in stone” for the arrival of these vaccines, however, the same as Pfizer.
