Thailand-
The following is a weekly feature article looking at this same time period LAST year in Pattaya and Thailand news.
This weekly feature takes a look back at news from the same period last year (and sometimes different time windows, such as six months or three months) to see how things have changed, following up on the progression of stories, as well as look at potentially broken promises or things that didn’t take place as promised in Pattaya and Thailand.
As we publish dozens of stories a week this is a quick way for people to take a look at what the biggest stories were a year ago, as chosen by our editorial team, and how they impact us today and relate to current news. They are in no particular order of importance, however, are in order of publication. This week, we cover the FIRST week of JUNE 2020, from Sunday, May 31st, 2020 to Saturday, June 6th, 2020. They are roughly in order of publication.
Once again, unfortunately, this recap from a full year ago will sound eerily similar to the current situation in Pattaya, a year later.
1. Fitness Centers and Gyms prepare to reopen in Pattaya and Thailand
Unfortunately, this year they are closed right now in Chonburi although there is some hope this may be lifted in the near future. It is not a national restriction but closed in all dark red provinces by government order and for red provinces, like Chonburi, up to the Governor. Most red-zoned provincial governors have kept gyms closed, for now. Color codes are set by the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) and designate restrictions and rules, although governors can strengthen rules if they wish.

2. Koh Larn reopens to the public
Deja Vu again, as Koh Larn has currently closed this year also, until at least June 13th. Koh Larn residents will decide later next week if they will reopen after the 13th or remain closed.

3. Pattaya City hopes domestic tourists return with hotels, massage, malls, and beaches open
Sound familiar? Of course, massage is still closed, but the others are open (or at least allowed to be open) and once again Pattaya leaders are trying to convince people that the city is still a great place even without entertainment venues being open and alcohol being banned (again) at restaurants.
4. Thai social media outraged after photos of Public Health Minister appearing to break Covid-19 rules go viral
Remember this story? It caused a huge fuss on social media, with the Health Minister eventually saying it was a “misunderstanding” of the policy.
5. Pattaya Police arrest 7-11 shoplifter with dozens of concealed items
How much can one person shoplift in a single visit? Well, perhaps this person was trying for a record.

That is all for this week, thank you for your support, see you next week!
