23 suspected gamblers arrested at Pattaya pool villa during a gambling den raid

Chonburi and Banglamung police raided an alleged gambling den at a pool villa in the Pattaya area last night, June 1st, reporting that they arrested 23 suspected gamblers in total.

A team from the Chonburi Provincial Police led by Colonel Santi Kornsasem and the Banglamung police raided a pool villa in Nong Plalai last night, Tuesday, June 1st, around 9:00 P.M.

Police arrested a total of 23 gamblers which were 18 women and five men. Police seized two sets of card games and 10,020 baht in cash.

The raid followed Chonburi police receiving a tip-off and concern over the Covid -19 pandemic in the area and nearby provinces. The tip came from what was described as a concerned citizen trying to stop Covid-19.

All 23 suspects are facing charges of offenses to the Disease Control order, the Emergency Decree, and Gambling Act. Under emergency laws the suspects could see fines in the hundreds of thousands of baht or even years in jail.

The names and ages of the suspects were not released to the press. TPN media notes that Thailand has some of the toughest gambling laws in the world.
