Emergency responders, firefighters, and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find one motorbike that was on fire in the middle of Soi Siam Country Club. The driver, Mr. Pasert (no last name was given), 41, had sustained several moderate injuries. Oil was found spilled along a stretch of the road for about 100 meters, according to Pattaya firefighters.
Firefighters took only five minutes to put out the motorbike fire while first responders took care of drivers whose bikes had slid and fallen due to the oil spill.
Witnesses to the incident, whose names were not given to the press, told The Pattaya News the oil spill had come from a large truck that had recently passed by. About 4 -5 motorbike drivers fell off their motorbikes in this area in total, most with only minor injuries. However, Mr. Pasert’s motorbike had burst into flames following the accident. Mr. Pasert was taken to a nearby hospital for moderate injuries.
Pattaya City Law Enforcement spokespersons told associated local media they will be reviewing CCTV in the area to identify the driver of the truck who had spilled the oil for potential legal charges and liability to those injured.
