Bang Saen –
A large, mature sea turtle was found floating deceased near Bangsaen Beach in Saensuk, Chonburi, yesterday.
Rescue workers were notified by a domestic tourist yesterday (May 29th) that they had discovered the dead sea turtle while walking on the beach nearby.
The turtle was recovered from the sea by rescue staff as seen in the photo taken below and was taken to the Marine Conservation Center in Si Racha for an autopsy and examination on the cause of death.
A rescue worker, Mr. Worapan Mitprapam, told The Pattaya News, “The sea turtle weighed about 30 kilograms. We believe that the turtle died at least ten days before it was found. ”
“Preliminary evidence and analysis by a turtle expert point out that the turtle is about thirty years old. An autopsy is being conducted to find the exact cause of death.” Worapan concluded.
TPN Media notes that since Covid-19 closed borders to foreign tourists unless they do a quarantine and caused multiple restrictions that the environment has recovered around the Chonburi area. Deaths of sea turtles, which are a protected species and have a nesting ground on Koh Khram near Pattaya, have been rare over the past year in the area.
