Thailand discovered a total of 2,713 daily Covid-19 infections, with 30 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, CCSA assistant spokesperson Apisamai Srirangsan announced this morning, May 24th.
The fatalities were 20 men and 10 women from Bangkok (11), Nakhon Ratchasima (3), Ratchaburi (3), Samut Sakhon (2), Samut Prakan (2), Pathum Thani (1), Sakhon Nakhon (1), Tak (1), Ayutthaya (1), Chiang Rai (1), Surin (1), Chaiyaphom (1), Nonthaburi (1), and Chainat (1). The age range was between 38 and 85 years old.
Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, chronic lung disease, chronic kidney disease, heart disease, liver disease, past strokes, obesity, and epilepsy. Three of them were bedridden patients. The other three reportedly refused to expose their health conditions.
Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest numbers of patients were reported in Bangkok with 951, followed by Phetchaburi with 669 (driven by a factory), Samut Prakan with 180, Chonburi with 106, Nonthaburi with 93, and Samut Sakhon with 43.
Phetchaburi reported more than 600 cases due to a new cluster that was found at a large electrical part factory and nearby communities in eight districts. Most of the infections include Thai, Myanmar, Cambodian, Indian, and Chinese nationals. While in Bangkok, two new active clusters were found in a sewing factory in Thung Khru district (29) and nursing homes for elderly care in Bang Khae district (23).
As of today, 1,565 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 132,213 cases with 86,100 recoveries and a total of 806 deaths since the start of the pandemic. About 43,233 people received their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccination and another 2,340 people received their second shot yesterday, marking a total number of 2,910,664 vaccinated people in Thailand who have received at least one dose of a vaccine.
As of this morning, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha has received his second shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine at Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute by public health permanent secretary Kiattiphum Wongjit.
The Prime Minister also reassured the public that the two brands of Covid-19 vaccine that Thailand is currently distributing at the moment are safe and effective as the government and the Public Health Ministry had thoroughly considered and approved under the global standards. He also encouraged everyone to register for the vaccine inoculation.
