Phanat Nikhom, Chonburi –

A driver and his passenger have escaped injury after his pickup truck burst into flames in the Phanat Nikhom district earlier this week.

The Phanat Nikhom Police was notified of the fire on Wednesday of this week (May 12th) on Suk Prayoon Road in the Kut Ngao sub-district.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find the fire was heavily ablaze with the driver and his colleague on the side of the road anxiously watching, but uninjured. It took half an hour for officials with the Phanat Nikhom Fire Department to extinguish the flames.

The driver, Mr. Sarawut Rphonkaew, 28, from Buriram, told associated local press, “I was coming from Nakhon Pathom and was heading to the Bor Thong district with my colleague for a work-related delivery.”

“We saw some smoke and fire behind us in the rear-view mirror, at first thinking the flames and smoke were from another vehicle until it dawned upon us that the flames were coming from our own truck. We immediately parked and abandoned the vehicle in the middle of the road as we had no time to properly pull over, calling emergency services for assistance. The truck had shown no sign of problems prior to the incident.” Sarawut stated to the press.

Phanat Nikhom firefighters are reviewing the cause of the fire and the vehicle was towed to a local mechanic shop with substantial damage.
