Fugitive inmate who was in state quarantine for Covid-19 detection arrested in Chanthaburi after fleeing treatment from a Rayong hospital

A fugitive inmate who was also in state quarantine after being monitored for a possible positive case of Covid-19 was caught last night, May 13th, after fleeing medical treatment from a local hospital in Ban Khai District, Rayong.

Tawatchai Chatthong had been detained in Rayong Central Prison when he was reportedly sick due to his health problems. He then was taken to receive treatment and have a Covid-19 test at Ban Khai hospital.

The prisoner reportedly escaped the quarantine from the hospital via a stolen motorcycle on Tuesday, May 11th. The prison officials along with the local police then began tracking his vehicle shortly after being alerted of the incident.

As of 7:30 AM. today, it was confirmed by the Rayong Central Prison officials that the fugitive detainee was found late last night in Chanthaburi by Kaeng Hang Maew local police.

He was immediately being taken back to prison. Tawatchai would be further prosecuted and charged for stealing, the officials added. He is being separated from other prisoners due to his Covid-19 status and his timelines when traveling are being investigated.
