Another 500,000 doses of Sinovac arrive in Thailand today

Thailand-

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China stated on social media earlier this afternoon, May 14th, 2021, that the latest batch of 500,000 doses of Sinovac had arrived in Bangkok from China earlier today.

This comes as Thailand is accelerating its efforts to vaccinate within the Kingdom, specifically Bangkok, as a current outbreak of infections in the country causes further damage to the economy and potentially could setback plans of reopening to badly needed foreign tourism later this year.

This also comes only a few weeks before doses of locally-produced Astrazeneca are set to be available in the country, with manufacturers stating to the press earlier this month that there have been no setbacks or delays on this plan.

The doses will undergo standard quality review by the Ministry of Public Health before being distributed to provinces and areas, as deemed by the Department of Disease Control, to help control the current Covid-19 outbreak in Thailand. Pattaya is expected to get at least 20,000 doses of this current batch, notes The Pattaya News, as both a “deep red” zone according to the Thai Government’s current Covid-19 color-coding scales that rank provinces based on a variety of factors around the disease and as a priority zone for economic growth.

The vast majority of the doses, however, are expected to be distributed in communities in and around the Bangkok area that are currently experiencing localized infections and compose the majority of the outbreaks in the country.
