Recently released pro-democracy activist, Panusaya “Rung” Sithijirawattanakul, announced via her social media accounts this morning, May 12th, that she has tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus, after spending 50 days in jail pending trial over lese majeste charges.
According to her timeline, Rung was bailed out from Central Women’s Correctional Institution before visiting the Criminal Court and Praram 9 Hospital on May 6th. She was at home from May 7th to the 9th. On May 10th, she left home for a drive-through Covid-19 test.
Yesterday, May 11th, she went to the Klongprem Central Prison where her fellow activists, Parit “Penguin” Chiwarak and Chaiamorn “Ammy the Bottom Blues” Kaewwiboonpan, were temporarily released.
Rung was there from 6:30 PM. to 8:30 PM., when she was informed of her Covid-19 test result. She said that she did not have any other suspicious symptoms rather than that she became very tired when she was at the prison on Tuesday.
Currently, she is being admitted to the Thammasat University Hospital for Covid-19 treatment.
Apart from the female activist, several prominent pro-democracy detained protesters are also confirmed with Covid-19 positive results in the Bangkok Remand Prison, namely Chookiat ‘Justin’ Saengwong, Parinya ‘Port Faiyen’ Cheewinpatomkul, and Arnon Nampa.
