One dead, one seriously injured, after pickup truck driver collides with motorbike reportedly taking illegal U-turn in Pattaya

Pattaya –

A female motorbike driver has been pronounced dead at the scene while her male passenger has sustained serious injuries after a pickup truck driver collided with her motorbike at an intersection in Pattaya last night (May 11th). The female driver was reportedly taking an illegal U-turn.

The Pattaya City Police was notified of the accident at 11:50 P.M. on Sukhumvit Road near an intersection in South Pattaya.

Police, emergency responders, and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find the motorbike passenger Mr. Songkiet Ninnetbut, 30 who had sustained serious injuries lying on the ground in pain. He was rushed to a local hospital for immediate medical assistance.

Nearby, rescue workers found the body of a female motorbike driver, who did not have identification on her and appeared to have been killed instantly during the accident. Pattaya Police are working on determining her identity.

A damaged motorbike and a damaged black pickup truck were found on the road. The pickup truck driver, Mr. Angkarn Rsakati, 38, was waiting for Pattaya police at the scene. He had not been injured during the accident.

Angkarn told Pattaya police, “I was going straight and passing through a green light, having the right of way. The motorbike driver came from another direction illegally and I had no way to avoid the collision. I had the right of way and did nothing wrong.”

A dashcam video from another vehicle shows the motorbike driver appearing to make an illegal U-turn in an area that specifically forbids U-turns.

Pattaya Police stated through a spokesperson they are reviewing dashcam footage and CCTV footage to determine the exact sequence of events, although at this time they believe Angkarn’s statement to be correct.
