Thief breaks into Pattaya optical shop, reportedly steals cash and gold worth about 100,000 baht

Banglamung, Pattaya, Chonburi –

Police are hunting for an alleged thief who reportedly broke into an optical shop in the Pattaya area before stealing cash and gold worth about 100,000 baht, Pattaya Law Enforcement told The Pattaya News.

This was the second break-in this week so far in the Pattaya area and the suspect may be the same person involved in the first incident, according to Pattaya Police.

The optical shop caretaker, whose name was withheld at their request, told The Pattaya News that the burglary incident took place at about 3:00 A.M Sunday morning (May 9th) in the Takean Tia sub-district.

The male suspect, aged around 35-45 years old was on a black motorbike and wearing a helmet to conceal his identity.

The suspect managed to unlock the door, possibly with a pick locking device, before breaking into the shop.

The suspect stole about 5,000 baht cash from the optical shop on the first floor. The suspect also broke into a bedroom on the upper floor before stealing gold bracelets and jewelry and sped away. The total items are worth more than 100,000 baht, according to the optician.

The incident was reported to the Banglamung Police.

The Pattaya News noted the optical shop is only 700 meters away from a pharmacy that had a similar crime earlier this week. The crime also took place in roughly the same time period as the previous crime

Pattaya Police officials believe the suspect might be the same person and is a potential serial thief in the Pattaya area. Residents and business owners are asked to ensure their valuables and property are properly secured and their CCTV systems are working at this time.  Due to Covid-19 and related restrictions and measures in place to control the virus, many local businesses are closed and many people are out of work, potentially resorting to crime, warned Pattaya Police.

An investigation and hunt for the suspect is underway, Pattaya Police added.
