Bangkok –

Representatives from the Moderna vaccine company will sell its first batch of Covid-19 vaccines to the Thai government only, Public Health Minster Anutin Charnvirakul said today, May 3rd.

The Minister of Public Health revealed the announcement after meeting with representatives of Zuellig Pharma Co., Ltd., the importer of Moderna vaccine, that the Public Health Ministry is ready to support registration of the Moderna vaccine in Thailand but all registration documents must be submitted to the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Moderna also insisted to sell its vaccines directly through the government or other related agencies under the supervision of the government. Similar to other vaccine manufacturers, they do not sell directly to the private sector according to their own conditions of the manufacturer, Anutin stated.

The Minister added: “The Government Pharmaceutical Organisation (GPO) would import the vaccine before selling doses to private companies later. The private companies who wish to buy the vaccine must request and submit the quantity of the doses to the GPO.”

Currently, three vaccine brands are already registered for emergency use in Thailand, namely AstraZeneca, Sinovac, and Johnson & Johnson, while the other manufacturers, Pfizer, Moderna, and Sputnik V, are awaiting registration.

Zuellig Pharma had just submitted its documents last week and the process should be completed this month, according to the FDA.
