Thailand’s Prime Minister officially sets the procurement and distribution of Covid-19 vaccines as top national agenda

National –

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha yesterday, April 26th, ordered the procurement of an additional 10 to 15 million Covid-19 vaccines per month and the establishment of an alternative vaccination center under the collaboration of public and private sectors.

The Prime Minister revealed on his Facebook account that after a discussion with national vaccine distribution consultants, he had officially set the allocation of Covid-19 vaccines as a top national agenda, mainly focusing on four targets including:

  1. Implementing the production and procurement of Covid-19 vaccines in every possible way with the goal of 10,000,000 to 15,000,000 doses per month from various manufacturers currently available.
  2. Adjusting the vaccine distribution structure nationwide under the collaboration of both the public and private sectors. The injection must be set in a proactive approach in order to relieve the burden from medical officials at hospitals and public health departments.
  3. Establishing alternative vaccination centers from suitable places, such as convention centers, sports centers, and hotels to help alleviate jobs of the major hospitals and public health departments. This may involve health volunteers and other assistance.
  4. 300,000 shots or more are estimated to be inoculated every day. About 50 million people are expected to receive vaccinations by the end of the year or faster.

Moreover, the Prime Minister also tightened the health screening and improved the procedures for receiving medical treatment as well as the patient transfer service at all hospitals to be more effective, according to his online statement.

TPN Media notes that there were no timelines given for when more vaccines would specifically arrive or when the goal of 300,000 shots a day would begin.
