Bangkok tightens Covid-19 restrictions and closes many more venues and places for at least two weeks

Bangkok, Thailand-

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and communicable disease committee met tonight, April 24th, 2021, and approved more measures to control the spread of Covid-19 in the city and area.

The measures were approved by Bangkok Governor Police General Aswin Kwanmuang.

Bangkok Officials stated there is no curfew and asked for people not to call the measures a lockdown but rather health precautions to protect the population. The measures start Monday, April 26th, and will last for at least fourteen days. This is only for Bangkok.

All previous measures, like the closure of entertainment venues, no alcohol in restaurants, and limited hours of convenience stores are still in effect. Restaurants can open until 9:00 P.M for dine-in and takeaway until 11:00 P.M. Large groups of people eating together are prohibited, social distancing must be followed.

The list released by the BMA is below, it is worth noting this is a developing story and changes could be made in the future.

  1. Theaters, cinemas, cultural theaters, cabarets, any sort of theater-style show
  2. Water parks, amusement parks both inside and outside shopping malls.
  3. Zoos
  4. Places to skate, skateparks, surf skating fields, etc.
  5. Snooker and pool halls
  6. Bowling venues
  7. Gaming cafes, Internet cafes
  8. Public Swimming Pools (Unclear if condo pools can open this will be based on condo management likely)
  9. Fitness centers/gyms
  10. Exhibition venues, exhibition centers, convention centers
  11. Museums
  12. Public Libraries
  13. Nurseries except for elderly overnight care in nursing homes
  14. Place for caring for the elderly that do not have exceptions under 13
  15. Boxing Stadium, Boxing Schools
  16. School of Martial Arts
  17. All types of tattoo shops
  18. Dance Schools
  19. Racetracks
  20. Amulet centers, amulet fields, religious amulet markets
  21. Beauty Clinics, beauty parlors, etc. (Barbers can open for a haircut only no waiting inside)
  22. Thai massage places of all types including traditional
  23. All types of playing fields for hobbies
  24. Theatrical venues where people gather
  25. Meeting rooms, conference rooms, banquet rooms
  26. Department stores, shopping centers can be opened from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, shops marked as closed on this list or prior measures cannot be opened.
  27. All kinds of sports fields for any sport both playing and watching
  28. Public Parks
  29. Convenience stores can be opened from 05.00-22.00.
  30. No parties, camps, filming for movies is allowed with large groups. TV shows, religious activities, religious practices, or meeting up to 20 relatives is allowed with precautions

Additionally, a mask mandate is now in effect for Bangkok. Those who do not wear a mask outside of their home, including driving alone, can be fined up to 20,000 baht.

Finally, the BMA also warned all public drinking of alcohol is banned and parties or socializing around alcohol or a party is also against the emergency decree and banned. Once again, however, there is no curfew and they are requesting it not be called a lockdown.
