Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha revealed on a Facebook post yesterday, April 22nd, the Thai government was in talks with the Russian government regarding the Sputnik V vaccine allocation in Thailand.
His status wrote: “The foreign ministry has received a response from Russia that the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has expressed his support to the Thai government in the matter of the Sputnik vaccine since Thailand and Russia have been in a long-lasting and good relationship, including with the current government.”
The Prime Minister, therefore, ordered the Ministry of Public Health to urgently proceed with the negotiation and make an appointment with a Sputnik V distributor in Thailand.
According to the Gamaleya National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Sputnik V vaccination showed a 97.6% efficacy.
The country announced its own vaccine development in August 2020 and began injections to the public for the first time in December of the same year. It is approved for use in 60 countries and is positioned as the second among Covid-19 vaccines worldwide in terms of approvals issued by various regulators.
