Driver dead, seven injured after pickup truck carrying ten construction workers crashes and overturns in rural Chonburi

Phanat Nikhom, Chonburi –

One person has died while seven people have sustained various injuries after a pickup truck driver that was carrying ten construction workers crashed and overturned in the Phanat Nikhom district earlier this week.

The Phanat Nikhom Police was notified of the accident on Monday night around 8:00 P.M. (April 19th) on Road Number 331 in the Monnang sub-district.

Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene to find an overturned and damaged silver pickup truck on the side of the rural road. People were found scattered across the road with various injuries.

Mr. Praivet Sangartit, 41, the driver, was found dead inside the pickup truck. Seven other people who were passengers riding in the truck had sustained various injuries who were named as Mr. Opas Jeamton, 27, Mr. Sarawut Taopoeen, 29, Mr. Prasan Eiangheng, 31, Mr. Chanchai Laipuengthong, 51, Puriwat Kariki, 32, Mr. Somjet Nuanputsa, 25 and Mr. Wichai Saruamsi, 31. Two additional passengers were not injured in the accident and were waiting for police and rescue workers to give statements.

Mr. Athiwat Kenson, 28 who was one of the passengers but was not injured told associated Thai press, “Ten of us were back from work in Si Racha and heading home for the night to Chacherngsao.”
“Five of us were inside the front of the truck and five others were in the back of the pickup truck. Half of us were awake and half were sleeping when the pickup truck driver lost control and overturned. We are not sure what caused the accident.” Athiwat stated.
Phanat Nikhom police are conducting a full investigation to find the exact cause of the accident and will be interviewing some of the injured passengers when they recover from their injuries at a local medical facility.
