Second motorbike driver in less than two weeks dies after falling into reportedly unmarked large road construction pit in Chonburi

Chonburi –

A motorbike driver has died, the second person in less than two weeks, after he drove his motorbike into a large and reportedly unmarked road construction pit in Ban Bueng over the past weekend.

The Klong Giw Police was notified of the accident on Saturday (April 17th) on Road Number 331 going from Sattahip to Chacherngsao.

They and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find the body of Mr. Jetsada Salee, 25, inside the pit which is 6 meters wide, 1.5 meters deep and 10 meters long. The pit did not appear to have warning lights or barriers despite a similar accident just under two weeks prior.

Ban Bueng law enforcement found the damaged motorbike of the driver’s lying nearby in the partially submerged construction pit. Police believed that the man died at least six hours before his body was recovered.

His mother, Mrs. Somphon Meepan, 54, told The Pattaya News, “My son usually drove to work in Rayong daily from Ban Bueng. He was the main person in our family who earned a living to support us.”

“There must be someone who should be responsible, or pay for my son’s death and funeral costs.” She added.

On April 6th another driver died while his passenger had sustained serious injuries after they drove their motorbike into the same large road construction pit in Ban Bueng. Authorities said they would look into the incident but the pit remained.
