Thailand discovered 1326 domestic infections among a total of 1335 new Covid-19 Coronavirus daily cases in the past 24 hours, the director-general of the Department of Disease Control announced this morning, April 14th.
This brings Thailand to a total of 35,910 people who have had the virus since the first round of infections last year, with 28,322 recoveries and 97 deaths. (0.27 percent of cases). Health officials noted that 36 people are in serious condition currently and 9 on ventilators.
As for the provinces with the most cases, Bangkok had 351 cases today, Chiang Mai had 319, Hua Hin (Prachuap Kiri Khan) had 161, and Chonburi had 99. The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration recorded Chonburi as having 77 but they stop recording cases at an earlier time for data purposes than Chonburi does. The Department of Disease control stated that they are not considering a national lockdown at this time, but that targeted lockdowns may be considered after Songkran. It is not clear what exactly this means but is likely to affect the Bangkok area and surrounding provinces. It is unclear if this would include Chonburi or even what restrictions or measures would look like and officials did not go into detail.
Today is the highest number of cases Thailand has recorded since the start of Covid-19 last year, although authorities also stated that the vast majority of infections in this round were asymptomatic or mild, driven by primarily young people who frequented entertainment venues, bars, and clubs and had not shown signs of significantly passing into the vulnerable or at risk-communities at this time.
