RECAP: Thailand discovers 956 domestic infections among 965 new Covid-19 daily cases in past 24 hours

Thailand discovered 956 domestic infections among a total of 965 new Covid-19 Coronavirus daily cases in the past 24 hours, the director-general of the Department of Disease Control announced this morning, April 13th.

The first group of 197 local infections was discovered in Bangkok. 34 of them were reportedly connected to entertainment venues and the other 163 infections were connected to other risky places.

The second group includes 115 cases that were reported in Bangkok’s vicinity. 19 of them were reportedly connected to entertainment venues and the other 96 cases were connected to other risky places.

The last group includes 653 domestic infections that were found in other provinces. 97 of them were connected to entertainment venues, 14 were from community markets, and 542 of them were connected to other risky places. The majority of the group was discovered in Chiang Mai alone with 251 infections. Chonburi recorded 101 new confirmed cases of the virus this morning. The vast majority of those who had tested positive were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms, according to authorities, stating that the current outbreaks were primarily in the young and healthy who frequented entertainment venues and similar establishments.

As of today, 40 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 34,575 cases with 28,288 recoveries and a total of 97 deaths since the start of the pandemic. About 6,424 people received their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccination and another 2,056 people received their second shot yesterday, marking a total number of 578,532 vaccinated people in Thailand who have received at least one dose of a vaccine.

Meanwhile, two senior officers from the Thong Lor police station in Bangkok have been transferred to the Metropolitan Police Division 5 headquarters after Thailand’s recent Covid-19 outbreak spread from entertainment venues in an area under their authority.

The police are Police Colonel Duangchote Suwanjaras, the superintendent of Thong Lor police station, and Police Lieutenant Colonel Thanakorn Ngamyen, the acting deputy superintendent.

Meanwhile, Police Colonel Kampanat Aroonkirirote, deputy commander of Metropolitan Police Division 5, was assigned as acting Thong Lor police chief and Police Thanathip Chompuwanich, chief of crime suppression at Thong Lor police station, was assigned as acting deputy chief of the Thong Lor police station.

According to the transfer order signed by the commander of the Metropolitan Police Division 5, an investigation committee was set up by the department to conduct an examination into the origin of the outbreak. Therefore, the transfer is necessary to ensure the investigation was just, fair and transparent.
