Jomtien, Pattaya –

Pattaya City officials revealed Jomtien beach renovation concept designs to the press this morning, citing the concepts, which are just proposals at this stage, will help boost domestic tourism to the area.

The project has been in planning for some time now, as we covered here previously.

The Pattaya City Deputy Mayor Pattana Boonsawat told associated Thai press this morning, “The beach renovation design in terms of concept and layout has been completed. It is now in the process of a formal request for budgeting from proper agencies and authorities.”

“The renovation proposal is divided into three phases which, if approved, will cost about 300 million baht.”

“The main renovations planned are to increase more parking spaces on the beach with about 1,000 additional parking areas, expand footpaths near the beach in some sections, especially on the South end of Jomtien Beach, adding bicycle lanes along with a special path for disabled and the elderly, more exercise areas, free public restrooms for use by visitors, and a skate park for youth and extreme sports enthusiasts that complements a stadium plan near Bali Hai Pier.”

“More sand is also proposed to be added to support the beach from the police box near Dongtan Beach to the Na Jomtien area which is about seven kilometres.”

“Tubes for underground cables will be added as a future project and there will be no need to dig up the road surface many times,” Pattana added, addressing concerns from area residents that after months of construction that had just finished that the city would tear up the roads again shortly to move cables underground.
