National –
The Department of Corrections yesterday, April 4th, announced the temporary suspension of visiting prisoners in all 143 prisons nationwide for one month, from April 5th to May 5th, after discovering a large number of Covid-19 infected prisoners and officials in a Narathiwat prison.
Instead, any visiting method will be done by distance through online platforms (For example, video call via Line application). The relocation of inmates between prisons will also be prohibited for a month while new inmates must be separated for 14-21 days for quarantine before going in, Corrections Department director-general Ayut Sinthoppan said to the press yesterday.
The urgent suspension was in effect after 112 prisoners and prison officials tested positive for the Covid-19 Coronavirus in Narathiwat prison. The disease investigation is still undergoing by public health officials.

The Department of Corrections ordered a ‘Bubble and Seal’ system to isolate all high-risk groups of people, establish a field hospital in the prison area to accommodate people with mild symptoms or who are asymptomatic, and conduct swab tests against high-risk close contacts to detect Covid-19 and prevent the spread of the disease.
Director-general Ayut also assured the public that the Department of Corrections will be able to control and cope with the situation under coordination with various related departments and asked for the understanding of the need to announce the intensive health measures to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 Coronavirus for a month.
