National –
The Department of Land Transport (DLT) has extended the period of renewing driver’s licenses from three to six months before the expiration date, effective today, Department Director-General Jirut Wisarnchit announced.
The six-month extension includes the renewal of all eight types of driver’s licenses categorized in the Automobile Act B.E. 2522, including personal vehicles, tractors, steam rollers, and public vehicles.
Jirut told the Associated Press yesterday, March 31st, that the extension is aimed to facilitate increasing numbers of drivers who want to have their licenses renewed in several branch offices nationwide. It will also provide more time for the drivers to apply for the driver’s license renewal.
Moreover, the department also allows the licensed candidate to apply for e-learning training via the website www.dlt-elearning.com for 24 hours and to finish the course within 6 months after the application.
The Director-General said: “Online learning does not only reduce the application process and to reduce the burden of the officials, but it also reduces the risk of the spread of the Covid-19 Coronavirus since the candidate does not need to be in the training room for a long time.”
Additionally, The DLT also offers a Smart Queue service for license renewal via a mobile application, which is available for both iOS and Android and can be downloaded for free.
