CAAT requests 40,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines for aviation staff prior to Phuket reopening to vaccinated tourists in July

Bangkok –

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) requested to the Thai government 40,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccination for aviation staff before the reopening of selected provinces in the country in July.

CAAT chairman Suttipong Kongpool revealed today, April 1st, that the CAAT has submitted a Covid-19 allocation request to the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on March 12th as Thai aviation personnel is the frontline when welcoming tourists.

He stated: “It is imperative for the aviation staff to receive the vaccine as they are considered in a high-risk group when the country is reopening again. According to our survey, there are approximately 20,000 employees working in the aviation department, including pilots, cabin crew, and ground crew.”

“The allocation is also to strengthen confidence among the incoming tourists and the staff that both parties are all vaccinated while they are arriving in Thailand.”

A total of 40,000 vaccine doses were needed in order to cover all of the staff front liners, according to the chairman. The proposal is currently in discussion in the CCSA. It is estimated the vaccine distribution would be operated before July 1, when Phuket’s “tourism sandbox” is scheduled to be launched.

The Thai cabinet last week has approved a proposal to welcome selected vaccinated foreign tourists to Phuket island without mandatory quarantine in July as the first step to the border reopening. More details of the proposal can be found in the article below:
