RECAP: Thailand finds 78 domestic infections among 92 new Covid-19 daily cases with one additional death in past 24 hours

Thailand discovered 78 domestic infections out of a total of 92 new Covid-19 Coronavirus daily cases with one additional death in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced this morning, March 18th.

Thailand’s 89th Covid-19 death was a 65-year-old Thai man from Samut Sakhon with an underlying health condition of lung cancer. He sought treatment at a local hospital on March 15th as he was suffering from a high fever, breathing difficulties, and panting. However, his pulse became undetectable and he was pronounced dead on the same day.

Doctors then took his samples for the Covid-19 test and he was proved positive for the virus.

Regarding the local infections, the majority of 64 cases were walk-in/hospital cases, including contact tracing, that were found in Samut Sakhon with 32, Bangkok with 20, Suphan Buri with 2, Mukdahan with 1, Samut Prakan with 1, Ayutthaya with 1, Pathum Thani with 1, Nonthaburi with 1, Nakhon Pathom with 1, and Ratchaburi with 1.

The other 14 cases were reported during proactive case finding in local communities, particularly in local markets, factories, and migrant worker’s dormitories in Samut Sakhon with 8, Phetchaburi with 3, Bangkok with 1, Pathum Thani with 1, and Nakhon Pathom with 1. All of the patients are now isolated at local and field hospitals for treatment.

As of today, 38 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 27,494 cases with 26,377 recoveries and a total of 89 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
