Samut Sakhon –
The Samut Sakhon provincial governor’s health condition is improving, with him recovering and being examined for his antibiotics to consider whether he should receive a Covid-19 vaccination, said Prof. Dr. Prasit Watanapa, Dean of Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital.
The professor said that Governor Weerasak Wichitsangsri is now being able to function on his own, able to breathe normally without any respiratory equipment, and able to eat and speak normally. His symptoms have gradually improved during the past week but the close supervision of medics is still needed.
“Only his muscle functions still need to be treated. The medical team is considering if the governor could have his rehabilitation at home or at Siriraj Hospital. It all depends on his further recovery,” Dr. Prasit stated.
The governor has been hospitalized for over two months after being tested positive for Covid-19 on December 28th, 2020, when he and other senior government officials, including health minister Anutin Charnvirakul, attended a brief meeting at Samut Sakhon Hospital.
Currently, Weerasak is in preparation for a blood test to detect Covid-19 antibody levels in order to see if the vaccination is necessary. Even though the governor of Samut Sakhon has detectable antibodies, he still has to wear a face mask to portray a good example for local people.
The Governor reportedly was on a ventilator for over 40 days, a record at the Siriraj hospital and at times doctors were unsure if he would recover.
