Twenty people arrested in Pattaya area bar for allegedly offending Covid-19 emergency decree

Pattaya, Banglamung, Chonburi –

Banglamung Police raided a bar in Nongprue over the past weekend for allegedly offending Chonburi Covid – 19 orders and the Thailand emergency decree regarding opening past the legal closing time. 20 people were arrested in total, including customers.

The Pattaya City Police were notified around 2:00 A.M. late last week by what they called a concerned citizen afraid about the potential spread of Covid-19 that a bar in Nongprue had opened for service allegedly offending an order regarding being open past the legal closing time. In Chonburi, the current legal closing time is Midnight for entertainment venues. Due to the Covid-19 emergency decree, the special administrative zone rules that normally allow Pattaya to be open later are suspended. The name of the bar was not explicitly given but was a venue primarily geared towards Thais with a Thai name.

The bar owner, staff, and customers were all arrested. The owner is facing charges of offending an order regarding limited closing times due to the Covid – 19 pandemic, illegally selling alcohol past the legal time of midnight, illegally operating an entertainment business, and violating the Covid-19 emergency decree. The name of the owner was not released to the Pattaya press.

The 19 customers are facing charges of violating the emergency decree, which included allegedly not following Covid-19 precautions like social distancing, mask-wearing, and other measures.

Police warned that customers caught in venues after the legal closing time during raids would not get a free pass and also face the full force of the emergency decree laws.

The Pattaya City Police also warned that more raids and inspections were coming and that the legal closing times would be very strictly enforced.
