The following is our weekly feature in which we highlight the top five local stories in our area, Pattaya and Chonburi, for the past week.
These are chosen by our editorial team and are designed for our readers to get a quick “catch-up” of important stories they may have missed as we publish many stories daily and it is easy to lose track of important events or changes in our area. We do national recaps in a separate article.
They are in no particular order of importance. These are for the week of February 14th to the 20th, 2021.
1. 73 people arrested during Pattaya nightclub inspection
Although nightclubs have been allowed to open, they must still follow strict Covid-19 rules and close at legal times, as 73 people found out last week.
2. British pedestrian passes away after being hit by a drunk driver in Pattaya
A very sad tale in which a local British ex-pat passed away after being hit by a drunk driver in the Pattaya area.
3. Sudden rainstorms cause Pattaya flooding
An unusual rainstorm in the middle of February caused traffic delays, flooding, and issues on Pattaya Beach. Learn more below.
4. Pattaya prosecutor continues working with victims and police on an alleged scam involving former Pattaya assistant bank manager
An update on this major story that we have been following for several weeks.
5. Speaking of scams…
Although this arrest took place in Phuket, hundreds of Pattaya residents have filed police reports about this alleged scam with a phone application called “Shopping Mall.”
That is all for this week. As always, thank you for reading The Pattaya News! The cover picture is of the nightclub inspection in the first article on this list, taken by our staff.
