Samut Prakan –

A Chinese national, 37, was arrested at his apartment in the Bang Phli District of Samut Prakan province today, February 18th, after allegedly selling weapons used in warfare via online platforms and social media, according to Thai police.

The arrest, conducted by Bang Kaew police, followed an extensive Thai police investigation, revealing that the suspect, named to the press as Mr. Wu Shang, 37, was allegedly using his Instagram account titled ‘dewaffen’ as an online platform to sell illegally smuggled firearms and ammunition in Thailand.

Wu Shang was discovered in his room during the police raid, along with a total of 9 assault rifles, 2 explosives, about 12,000 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, as well as a large number of other firearm parts, accessories, and narcotic drugs, according to Bang Kaew police. The exact nature of the alleged narcotic drugs was not named to the press during a Bang Kaew press briefing.

Mr. Shang was taken to the Bang Kaew police station for further interrogation and legal proceedings with initial charges of possessing, importing, and selling firearms illegally in the Kingdom of Thailand.

Shang did not give an immediate statement to the Thai press and it is unknown if he has secured the services of a lawyer at this time. Bang Kaew police stated to the Thai press that they will be working on determining exactly where Mr. Shang got his supply of the weapons from and if other individuals or organizations were involved with the smuggling and sales of the illegal weapons.
