Royal Thai Police reports arrests of three suspects in two cases of alleged online shopping scams of luxury woman handbags

Bangkok –

The Royal Thai Police today, February 17th, announced two arrests of suspects after reportedly hacking social media accounts to sell luxury woman handbags, causing about tens of million baht in damage.

Two suspects were arrested in the first case of alleged online fraud. They had allegedly randomly hacked an account with many followers and friends on multiple social media platforms, particularly on Facebook, Instagram, and Line before repetitively posting pictures and messages of brand-name handbags for sale.

Many interested followers of the hacked accounts would contact the alleged scammers and make a purchase. However, the bags were not delivered. There were reportedly about 17 victims who filed police reports at local police stations nationwide. One of the suspects had previously been arrested for similar charges in a facial mask scam and was granted bail by the Court’s decision before seemingly committing another online fraud.

In the second case, a 34-year-old Thai woman, whose name was not given by the authorities, was captured in a similar scam. She would reportedly publish the sale of second-hand luxurious bags on Facebook. After many people showed their interests and transferred money, none of the products were delivered and she would become unreachable.

The expanded investigation also exposed that the woman had reportedly constantly committed online selling fraud until she was eventually arrested by the police. All three suspects were detained for further interrogation under the supervision of the Royal Thai Police and for legal proceedings.
