Chonburi-
A baby monkey has sustained serious injuries after its mother died protecting the baby following an attack by another monkey in Mueang Chonburi.
Mr. Siriwat Janhuad, 29, a domestic Thai tourist, had visited Sam Mook Hill in the Sanesuk sub-district over the past weekend.
He told The Pattaya News, “There are many monkeys living on the hill. I saw an alpha male monkey, which seemed to be some sort of leader, attack the mother monkey and the baby monkey, estimated to be seven-days-old.
“The mother monkey unfortunately passed away due to her wounds while the baby monkey had sustained serious injuries. The mother died protecting the child.”
“Other tourists helped to chase the alpha male monkey away from the injured baby and called animal control for help.”
Mr. Sanon Payoon, 50, a staffer at the Sanesuk Veterinary Center told local Thai press “The baby monkey had sustained serious injuries and is now being treated at the Bang Phra Wildlife Domestic Research Station in Si Racha.”
Thankfully, the young monkey is expected to fully recover with proper treatment and medical care, Sanon added.
It is unknown what led to the aggressive attack with Sanon remarking the behavior was unusual.
