A look back at the first week of February in top local Pattaya news

The following is our weekly feature in which we highlight the top five local stories in our area, Pattaya and Chonburi, for the past week.

These are chosen by our editorial team and are designed for our readers to get a quick “catch-up” of important stories they may have missed as we publish many stories daily and it is easy to lose track of important events or changes in our area. We do national recaps in a separate article.

They are in no particular order of importance. These are from Sunday, January 7th, to Saturday, February 13th, 2021.

1. 36 people arrested at villa party in Pattaya allegedly violating Covid-19 related rules

36 people were arrested last week in Pattaya at a villa party that was raided by police after complaint phone calls came in at around 6:30 AM in the morning. The party was, according to Pattaya Police, violating strict Covid-19 related rules involving limits on gatherings and following Covid-19 precautions like wearing masks and social distancing.

2. Pattaya City bar owners want venues allowed to open until at least midnight

Currently, all bars and clubs in entertainment heavy city Pattaya are, under the orders of the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, ordered closed by 11:00 P.M. This unpopular order, which business owners claim is costing them significant business, is deemed essential by the CCSA to help “discourage” lack of social distancing while under the influence of alcohol. In good news, however, the CCSA plans to review the current provincial zone codes later this week and may allow Chonburi to open later. Then again, it is no guarantee.

3. A 13-year-old-boy dies after running a red light on “his” motorbike in Pattaya.

This story drew dozens of comments and discussion around what many residents claim is a large problem with underage drivers in the area and Thailand in general. Rest in Peace.
