Chonburi –
An alleged shooter, 23, was arrested in Chonburi yesterday, February 8th, after reportedly killing a policeman at a gas station in the Mueang district of Suphan Buri province on Monday night.
Sitthipong Chasa-ard was reportedly drinking with his teenage friends at the gas station when police officer, Police Sub-Lieutenant Chanwit Discharoen, 53, approached the group and calmly warned them to break up the assembly as they were violating the Emergency Decree of drinking and gathering after 11:00 PM.
Footage of CCTV at the gas station shows Sitthipong, who was believed to be intoxicated at the moment, grabbing his .38 firearm and walking behind the policeman before shooting him in his head.
The officer was reportedly killed instantly while the youngsters fled the scene. Sitthipong was spotted traveling with his friend’s pickup truck to the Suphan Buri Provincial Transport Station before heading to Chonburi.
The Provincial Court then issued an arrest warrant against the alleged killer following a police investigation. Sitthipong was captured at his girlfriend’s apartment in the Si Racha district yesterday evening.
He was transferred to the Suphan Buri police station for legal proceedings with initial charges of murder, illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition, and carrying a firearm in public without reasonable cause.
It is unknown if Sitthipong has a lawyer and he did not immediately release a statement.
