RECAP: Thailand discovers 176 domestic infections among 186 new Covid-19 cases in past 24 hours

National –

Thailand reported 176 domestic infections among a total of 186 new Covid-19 Coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, CCSA deputy spokesperson Apisamai Srirangsan announced this morning, February 8th.

36 out of 176 domestic cases were discovered in Samut Sakhon with 31 and Bangkok with 4 during proactive case finding in major factories and local communities, particularly in migrant worker dormitories. Most of them are Burmese workers and are asymptomatic. All of the patients are now at provincial state quarantine and field hospitals under the supervision of public health authorities.

The Pattaya News notes that the number of proactive cases has been significantly decreased to two-digit numbers since the occurrence of the second Covid-19 outbreak in the shrimp market in Samut Sakhon.

The other 141 infections were found from ‘walk-in’ (many of these are actually people in existing field hospitals such as migrants) hospital cases in Samut Sakhon with 132, Pathum Thani with 4, Bangkok with 3, Nakhon Pathom with 1, and Phetchaburi with 1. They are now isolated at local hospitals for treatment. The youngest case was discovered in a 10-month old infant in Samut Sakhon.

As of today, 468 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 23,557 cases with 17,410 recoveries and a total of 79 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

At the end of the daily briefing, Thai people were being reminded to perform strict health measures including social distancing with their family members and their loved ones during the week of special occasions of Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day.
