Pattaya-
The Keng Bali Hai restaurant, located next to the Bali Hai Pier, gave away hundreds of fresh meals to the needy in Pattaya yesterday, February 6th, 2021.
Mr. Wattana Meesutha, the owner of Keng Bali Hai restaurant, told the Pattaya News that he and his team had been providing assistance both during the first closure period last year as well as more recently.
Pattaya has just re-opened its popular entertainment industry in the hard-hit tourism-dependent city after a month’s closure due to Covid-19 concerns in the Chonburi province. The cases came about following a large cluster of infections stemming from illegal gambling establishments that have since been permanently closed.
Last year, entertainment venues were closed from the middle of March to July in a closure that devastated the industry. This second closure, although shorter, came one day before the New Year and when the city had been starting to improve, especially on weekends, with domestic tourism.
Wattana stated that although all businesses had been allowed to open there were still no foreign tourists and very few domestic tourists as many were still concerned with the Covid-19 situation in the country. As a result, many people were struggling financially in Pattaya. Although he said his own business has struggled, especially with earlier closing times and no alcohol sales for the past month (Restaurants remained open during the recent closure but alcohol was banned until this week) he still stressed that he wanted to help those he could.
The event saw hundreds of meals handed out to those in need. Temperature checks, social distancing, mask-wearing, and hand sanitizer were also used as precautions during the charity event.
