Three gamblers arrested in Chonburi and accused of offending the emergency decree around Covid-19

Chonburi-

Three gamblers have been arrested over alleged offenses to the Thai emergency decree.

The Mueang Chonburi Police were notified of the alleged gambling at Soi Baan Suan Lieang Mueng in the Baan Suan sub-district via the 191 police call center today, February 1st, 2021. The caller was concerned about the potential spread of the Covid-19 Coronavirus according to police and claimed to be protecting everyone’s health.

Police arrived at the house identified by the caller to find three people who were drinking alcohol. They denied the claims about gambling. They told police that they were only drinking alcohol.

Police conducted a search on the suspects and found dice and cards. They were taken to a police station where they allegedly finally admitted to gambling.

They are facing charges of playing illegal gambling games and gathering in a small place which offends the emergency decree.

Penalties for the violation of this law, in effect due to the Covid-19 situation in Thailand, are strict with high fines and potential jail time.
