Protesters started to give speeches in Thai and in Burmese languages to express their displeasure against the military takeover. Two prominent pro-democracy leaders, Parit “Penguin” Chiwarak and Panusaya “Rung” Sithijirawattanakul, also arrived at the embassy.

Yannawa police then told the protesters to call off the assembly at around 4:00 PM, allegedly due to concerns of potentially spreading the Covid-19 Coronavirus. The demonstrators remained to gather at the place when a large group of armed riot police were seen marching from the Surasak BTS area to disperse the demonstration about an hour later.
