During Pattaya school closure for Chonburi, one young boy starts his own food cart to help his parents during Covid-19

Pattaya-

An eleven-year-old boy who found himself out of school for the past month in Pattaya, like all local school children, due to Covid-19 measures, decided that instead of playing video games and relaxing he would start his own toast and dessert business to help his parents whose jobs had also been affected by Covid-19.

The boy, who was filmed with the permission of his parents for this story, was noticed by Pattaya News reporters in Naklua around 6:00 P.M. yesterday evening, January 29th, 2021, in front of the Kasikorn Bank Naklua branch with steady business at his toast and dessert custom food cart.

The boy is in fifth grade at the Mueang Pattaya School 3 but found himself out of school when the second round of Covid-19 related closures swept the area in late December. (school resumes Monday, February 1st, after a month).  Worse yet, his parents found themselves also disrupted by Covid-19 and out of work temporarily although they have also now taken up food cart selling in nearby areas.

According to the boy, whose name was withheld due to his age, he came up with the idea for the cart as he has always enjoyed cooking and learned how from other family members. His parents helped him set up what he needed to start his own business but the idea and implementation were all his. He works every day from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM and his parents check-in on him and picks him up at night.

Besides toast, he also sells various types of dessert bread, like strawberry and chocolate. All of the money he has earned goes to help with his house and parents during a period of time in which due to Covid-19 restrictions and measures thousands are out of work. Despite the bread being as cheap as fifteen baht, he told Pattaya News reporters the business has been a success and he has enjoyed helping his family during the current period of school closure.

He will continue to work after school when he doesn’t have a lot of homework he said and on weekends as he enjoys helping his family. When asked if his family needed donations or support the boy declined and said he simply wanted people to support them by coming to try his food.
