Thailand discovered 278 domestic infections among 287 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, CCSA spokesperson Taweesin Visanuyothin announced today, January 12.

A total of 153 local cases were discovered in Samut Sakhon 51, Bangkok 33, Chonburi 17, Samut Prakan 12, Rayong 9, Ang Thong 8, Lop Buri 6, Pathum Thani 5, Ayutthaya 3, Chacheongsao 2, Chiang Mai 2, Singburi 2, Khon Kaen 1, Suphanburi 1, and Roi Et 1.

The other 125 infections in Bangkok were found during proactive screening measures by the provincial public health office. All of them are quarantined and under disease investigation.

As of today, 59 provinces nationwide are confirmed with Covid-19 cases since the second wave of the virus outbreak on December 15th, 2020. About 10 provinces in red-coded color have more than 50 infections, 12 in orange-coded have between 11 to 50 infections, 37 in yellow-colored with one to 10 infections, and 18 provinces in white with no cases.

The spokesperson also mentioned the progress of establishing a field hospital in Samut Sakhon, explaining that a temporary hospital with about 1,000 beds is currently under construction by the Thai Royal Army and volunteers. The beds will be installed after the construction to treat Covid-19 infected patients found in the first cluster. Thailand requires all asymptomatic patients to be “treated” at a field hospital and does not allow isolation at home.
