Thailand-

The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced a total of 212 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Thailand this morning, with 187 of those being domestic locally spread cases.

19 cases are people entering Thailand from overseas either being repatriated or through a certificate of entry process and six are migrant workers in a “hard quarantined” zone.

Thailand now has a total of 10,053 cases since the start of the Covid-19 outbreak last year, according to the CCSA. 5,546 have been recovered and discharged (with 291 released in the past 24 hours) and 67 have passed away, most with pre-existing health conditions.

Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin, the spokesman of the CCSA, also said that he was very pleased with the number of people who had downloaded the Thai “Morchana” application which is used for tracing and tracking people to help stop Covid-19, according to the CCSA. According to his statements, a total of 5.34 million people have now downloaded the application which features GPS tracking and uses Bluetooth.

Meanwhile, The Public Health Ministry has said that they feel the situation is stabilizing and improving and believe by the end of January, according to their statements, they will have the situation nearly fully under control.

Dr. Opas Kankawinpong, director-general of the Disease Control Department, told reporters that twenty provinces have seen no cases of Covid-19 in seven days and since New Year’s which is a very good sign, on top of twenty provinces who have yet to see a case in the second round of Covid-19 cluster infections in Thailand.

There are a total of 19 provinces with one to 10 cases, 10 provinces with 11-50 cases, eight provinces with over 50 cases according to Dr. Opas, on top of the provinces with no cases at all or in seven days. Dr. Opas said that smaller individual cases were outpacing flashpoints and large clusters and this was a very good sign.
